depends on the personality of the female lead. If shes more bad ass and independent, i tend to like her paired with a puppy dog type. If shes a little more damsel in distress, then i like the broody type

But if you look at it from the anime Yakuza fiancé 's perspective...it kinda worked even when both of them were bad ass
