Well yes you should learn, also don't be afraid to experiment some of my best work comes from me trying new things that I didn't learn, some of my biggest mistakes also come from the experimenting of course I would always recommend watching at least one or two tutorials on whatever materials you're using just so you have the base understanding but after that go wild and if someone tells you you're not creating the right way ignore them they have no clue what they're talking about
